Win My Sloe Gin!

Sloe Gin

t's been all quiet on the Ladybits front for a bit - I've been recharging my batteries on the wild, wet and windy Isle of Wight. Now, I realise that my absence may have left a hollow, empty shell in your lives, but wallow in your emptiness no more, because I'm back back BACK - bigger, fresher, and champing at the (lady)bit.

If your life, however, is still feeling like a hollow, empty shell, then here's a great chance to win some top-notch self-medication. I've just finished bottling up my very first batch of sloe gin, which has been fermenting since last November, and I'm rather delighted with the results. Now, far be it from me to blow my own trumpet, but I believe Mrs Anke's Ruin is as fine a tipple as you can possibly get. You can mix it with sparkly stuff, make cocktails, or simply swig it out of the bottle. Even gin-hating Mr Anke can happily glug this stuff straight, that's how lovely it is.

To get your hands on my lovely liquor, all you need to do is answer the following question, leaving a comment at the bottom, and the best answer wins. Contest closes at the end of the month. I just hope that my blogging compadre SK Waller comes up with a rubbish answer or I'm facing fun at the Post Office...

Question: If you were a drink, which drink would you be and why?

Best of luck!

I'd be a Sapphire Martini. Because: blue is my favourite colour, Martini is practically my surname and it also happens to be one of the world's most expensive cocktails (you get diamond and sapphire earrings instead of an olive!), which means you have to be someone of immense taste, style and affluence to spend time in my company!

i am a 16 y/o Lagavulin - past its best and antiseptic like TCP, although still acting like a teenager :-)

Nice one, Anna! Congratulations at being the first to enter!

Ahhh, Mr Solley. Warms my cockles that you're one of the first out of the box, or should that be one of the first into my box...

I'd be a bottle of White Zinfandel -- Peppery of character, smooth of taste, neither red nor white, sweet nor dry, created by accident, and aged to perfection.

I'm a Bloody Mary - Fruity, thick, spicily hot, and alcoholic.

i'd be sloe gin because you might think me bitter and hung up on first meeting but i mellow into something mighty fine and moreish the more you partake of me. (actually i'm more like baileys, sweet and easy - but that's not a side of me that i've let out since i got married :) )

nicky

If I were a drink, would I either know or care what drink I was? Discuss, with particular reference to whether a drink may possibly be a dissatisfied drink, thinking its life would be ok if it were another drink altogether.

I'd be water - because I am cheap and easy! (to get hold of)

I'd be a homemade Lemonade - a big tart with little substance.

I'd be a can of Carlsberg Special Brew 'cos I'm strong, lacking in any sort of frills, very effective and er... running out of ideas now...loved by spotty teenage boys? (pffft!)

Just Beer... Most men would LOVE me, and want me every night.
Girls, well, they pretend to like me, but secretly they don't! (booo)
And- at the end of the night, I'd send you all loopy! ;o)

I would be a Porn Star Martini. Coz I'm fruity with a little shot of fizz on the side.

Sex On A Beach(ed) Whale...

Excellent prize!

Well, I was going to go with a G&T but that's a bit obvious, considering the prize. So... I'd be a hot chocolate: sometimes sickly, often comforting, full of marshmallows & with a lot at the bottom.

I'm going to go for Guinness. Dark and smooth with a white(ish) head!

Expresso......hot and bitter

Mateus Rose... Cheap and I'll go with anything...

a cup of tea. down to earth!

If I were a tipple it would be a bloody Mary, bright and bold and full of goodness, but be wary of my naughty twist, a natural pick me up to give you a boost, if the night before you got to p*€€#d !

I did think about the cocktail, "A slow, comfortable screw" but then thought again what that may imply ;-) so been racking brain again and if I was a drink maybe I should be simply water - pure, clear and can mix with everything :-D And yes, often tasteless!! ;-p

Almost certainly Bailey's - slightest of bites, but really easy to get along with (& good to keep around!)

Resisting the urge to be my name (although spelt differently from the alcoholic drink), I'd be... a large glass of mulled wine - slighly spicy, best enjoyed on a dark evening curled on the sofa, guaranteed to warm you up!

I'd be a sweet wine from the South of France, a Muscat de Rivesaltes - wonderfully aromatic, full of unctuous sweetness...but with a fullness of body.

I have just ended bottling up my very primary lot of sloe gin, which has been fermenting since last November, and I am quite pleased with the consequences.

Mrs Anke's Womanifesto

  • "I need you to write for my blog, I need a section on girly things like shopping and beauty treatments" said Mr Anke. As someone who thinks the "What Were You Thinking?" page is infinitely better than the "This Week's Best Dressed", and is very definitely anti-diet and pro-bake the cake, eat it and then have seconds, I thought he'd lost his marbles. But why not give it a shot? This is the lifestyle blog which doesn't give a monkey's if you have neither of these things.
